Who is your Wine-making hero? And Why?
Our farm’s foreman oom Boetie Isaacs. He is committed to these vineyards, he treats his team with respect and makes my job a lot easier.
Best part of the job?
The people in the industry. It is amazing to meet winegrowers from all corners of the wine world and to discover how much we all have in common.
At my previous project I had the opportunity to discover the hidden potential of an unknown site and to see what is possible when a winemaker gets given some creative freedom.
Living on board a yacht and island hopping the Indian Ocean.
Best wines ever tasted?
Domaine Romanee Conti “La Tache” in magnum
The SA wine I admire most is
Sadie Family, Palladius
My favourite food match with (your estate) wines is……………….
Spicy squid with a lime dressing paired with our Semillon
Favourite local restaurant?
Still so many to try but The Foodbarn in Noordhoek is great
Those tangy tops sweets at Woolies, Chuckles and an oily fish parcel at Snoekies
I always wanted to learn how to
Keep special wines until the right moment instead of opening them at the first braai My biggest challenge.
is to convince South Africans to spend more on great SA wines. In a global context, their still very affordable and available. Oh and to sell more Semillon of course..
My funniest moment on the job
Whenever a snake is discovered in a vineyard it provides for the funniest moment of the week!
If my private cellar caught fire I’d grab……….
The fire hose obviously! My place is pretty small so I would have to move!
The best cultivars to work with are…………..
Very much dictated by the site but here at Constantia Uitsig I think Syrah and Chardonnay will be solid performers.
A great moment for me ………..
Is Bosveld campfires whilst listening to the animals come out
When I’m not drinking wine I’m sipping……
Gin & Tonics
