The Last of the Merlot 2009….
Have you ever stopped to consider how the last of something is always the most tempting? The one that everyone wants? Think about that last slice of succulent roast turkey on the Christmas table, being eyed from all sides by the extended family. The last window seat on the plane, when the flight is fully booked. The famous last Rolo. We think it’s because you’ve had the time to enjoy whatever it is at your leisure, so you know how good it is – and just how much you’ll be missing out when its gone.
That’s how we feel about the last remaining bottles of our Merlot 2009. It has been an exciting, glittering journey together over the past 5 years:
Planted in cool clay soils, high up on our steep Constantia slopes, Merlot is a variety ideally suited to the terroir at Eagles’ Nest. In fact, 4 of our 12 hectares under vine are dedicated to Merlot. Micro-management of the vines and meticulous attention to detail in the cellar leads to layering and palate-pleasing complexity… and, with 2009 hailed as of the best vintages in recent years, the Eagles’ Nest Merlot 2009 was no exception. A wine of elegance and finesse, beautiful freshness and considerable ageing ability.
We’re proud to have watched our Merlot 2009 share happiness and delight over the years, whether taking on the role of the perfect dining partner at many glamorous dinners, acting as the Eagles’ Nest ambassador at the estate, wine stores and wine shows across the world, or impressing as an A-student with wins at numerous competitions and top ratings from some of the industry’s most notable critics. The proverbial trophy cabinet features a Diamond Award at the recent 2014 Winemakers Choice Awards, which shares the shelf with a Double Gold at the 2013 Veritas Awards, 4.5 stars in Platter’s South African Wine Guide, 91 points in Tim Atkin’s Annual Report and 93 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
And, while the awards mean the world to us, nothing can beat that feeling when someone tries our Merlot for the very first time. We focus on their facial expression, especially those who declare, “I’m really not a fan of Merlot”. The frown changes, the eyes soften, the lips break into a smile. We produce a Merlot to love and adore, and it’s wonderful to watch the romance blossom each and every time.
The last bottles of our Merlot 2009 are now available for purchase – and we’re giving you the exclusive opportunity to ensure that you don’t miss out. Contact Kaylee on firstname.lastname@example.org or on 021 794 4095 to secure your order.
